About Microomics

Microomics is a biotech company with a strong technological foundation, specialising in microbiome analysis using omics technologies, combining high-throughput sequencing technologies with advanced bioinformatics capabilities and complementary services.

Microomics acts as a microbiome-focused Contract Research Organisation (CRO) by virtue of its unique national platform for microbiome studies, enabling the coordination of analytical workflows across more than 50 different sample types in four main sectors (Human Health, Animal Health, Agriculture, and Industry).

We have our own certified clean-room facility which reduces experimental error across the various stages of the workflow, along with high-performance computing capacity and a biobanking service that enables us to offer an end-to-end service.

Mission

To develop innovative solutions based on microbiome analysis in order to transform the Human and Animal Health, Energy, Agri-food, and Consumer Goods sectors, contributing to more sustainable development.

Vision

To establish ourselves as leaders in metagenomic analysis applied to R&D, diagnostics, and precision therapies, and to evolve towards the development of AI-based products using the microbiome as a key bioindicator to transform processes in health, industry, and the environment.

R&D

Investment in Research and Development (R&D) is a core pillar of our medium-term strategy. Thanks to the scientific and research background of our team and founders as well as various external collaborations, we are not only well positioned to incorporate the latest scientific developments and advances into our service offering, but also to develop innovative solutions.
We develop data-mining platforms and customised microbiome analysis services to address the needs of diverse sectors such as Human Health, Animal Health, and Agriculture.

Our History

2017

Microomics is founded

Microomics is founded as a spin-off from the Centre for Genomic Regulation at the Barcelona Biomedical Research Park, led by two scientists from the Centre with extensive experience in microbiome research, Pedro González PhD and Toni Gabaldón PhD. Initially, the company offered only bioinformatics services.

2018

EXPANSION OF SERVICES

We embraced molecular biology and sequencing services with the aim of offering an increasingly integrated end-to-end service.

2020

IN-HOUSE RESEARCH LINES

We evolved into a hybrid model with the addition of two Torres Quevedo researchers, the award of a CDTI NEOTEC grant, and recognition as an Innovative SME, enabling us to develop our own research lines.

2022

360° PLATFORM

With the relocation to our new headquarters to the Sant Pau Modernist Complex in Barcelona, we completed our 360° platform, adding our own clean-room facility, biobanking service, and logistical support for sample collection and transport, ensuring full end-to-end project management.

2023

NATIONAL EXPANSION

With the creation of a commercial team, we began our expansion across Spain to provide stronger support to clients nationwide.

2024

SERVICE EXPANSION

We continued to improve and expand our bioinformatics pipelines, incorporating taxonomic assignment of viral and eukaryotic microbial fractions in shotgun metagenomics studies, complementing the prokaryotic fraction.

2026

Relocation to the “The Hive” innovation hub

We relocated to the Almirall innovation hub called “The Hive” as a strategic step for growth. This move strengthened our technical and scientific capabilities, enabling us to support more complex projects and continue building knowledge in microbiome and metagenomics..
