Sergio Martínez-Campos

Molecular Laboratory Manager

Sergio Martínez Campos holds a PhD in Hydrology and specialist in environmental microbiology, molecular biology, metagenomics and applied bioinformatics. His career combines research, technology transfer and technical management, with a particular focus on microbial surveillance, antibiotic resistance and One Health approaches in environmental and agri-food settings.

Throughout his career, he has worked on the design and implementation of sampling strategies, nucleic acid extraction, qPCR, sequencing using Illumina and Oxford Nanopore technologies, and complex microbial community analyses, integrating scientific expertise with an applied, results-oriented approach. His experience across academia and public-private collaborations has enabled him to develop a versatile profile, bridging laboratory work, quality, operations and project requirements.

Currently, as Laboratory Manager at Microomics, he contributes to the implementation, standardisation and optimisation of laboratory processes related to metagenomics and microbiome research. He also provides scientific and technical advice to researchers and R&D teams on experimental design, methodology selection and results interpretation.

He combines scientific rigour, operational capability and strategic vision to support the development of robust, reproducible and scalable workflows, transforming complex samples into high-value microbiological data for research, innovation and advanced applications. His experience is further strengthened by scientific publications, multidisciplinary collaborations, and contributions to the drafting, coordination and management of national and international public-private R&D projects.
